One of the areas in my house that I’ve always kept neat and tidy is my closet. When I purchase an article of clothing, I choose it wisely and carefully. I never impulse buy. I rarely shop or go into department stores. My intent is to live with less clutter. Clothing can be a major area of disorder for many people. I’ve known individuals who have had so much clothing that they can barely see what’s really available to wear in their closet. I’ve also known those who are addicted to shopping. Clothes can just keep piling up if you let them. It isn’t hard to do if you don’t take control of a shopping habit. For me, I rarely shop (I purchase maybe a handful of items per year), so when I do, I’m very selective with the things I choose and a lot of thought goes into my purchases. For one, I consider the price. I usually don’t buy apparel that is over $35 per item. Secondly, I always review what is in my closet and make a decision to buy something that I am in need of. In other words, I just don’t buy for the sake of buying. Lastly, I treasure each and every shirt, pant, dress, jacket, shoe, and piece of jewelry I own. Things I don’t value, I place in a donation drop box. Living with less clothes is freeing. Your house will more than likely become neater and more organized. You will actually find that picking out an outfit to wear for the day is easier. You will save a lot more money by not always buying what you like rather than what you need. It will be easier to pack when traveling (some minimalists have such a small wardrobe that they can pack the entire contents of their closets). And, most importantly, you will appreciate what you have rather than having the mindset that you don’t have enough and need more! I’ve posted my current wardrobe down below for you to see. One more thing I forgot to mention is that with every new item I purchase, I donate an old item that I no longer want. This keeps things in my closet at a minimum.
My Minimalist Wardrobe
*Wardrobe picture doesn’t include accessories, shoes, pajamas, jackets, or bathing suits. Just FYI, I only have 4 pairs of shoes, 3 pairs of pajamas, 3 jackets, 3 bathing suits, and a handful of jewelry + 1 hat.
